something for everyone

As you can read on the “about us” page, we are a horizontally organized collective. This means anyone can organize any activity they wish – as long as new activities are discussed and approved beforehand, so a majority agrees with any new event and/or collaboration.

We do have several recurrent activities, which take place on a regular basis and form the core of our collective. Those are:
– Monthly roundtables
– Creative afternoons
– Yearly beach outing
– Yearly participation in several pride events and protests.

Most of our monthly roundtables and creative afternoons take place in Brussels (walking distance from the Central station). However, we sometimes also offer these events in other cities, mostly in Wallonia (Namur, Liège, Brabant-Wallon,…). If you cannot make it to Brussels and live in Wallonia, keep an eye out on our event calendar here, have a regular look at our Instagram or subscribe to our monthly newsletter.

Monthly roundtables

Let’s Talk About Non-Binary’s roundtables are at the heart of the collective’s creation and, in the very beginning, always gave us the push to continue with our (volunteer) work. These events are very important to us, since they enable non-binary, genderqueer, genderfluid and agender folks as well as those questioning their gender identity to meet in a safe(r) place and spend some quality time together. This setting – all our events take place in chosen non-mixity – allows us to discuss the issues we face without taboo and to ask questions we otherwise would be afraid to ask. Such opportunities are important not only for those who have long identified as non-binary but especially for those who are still questioning or just discovering their gender identity and need a supportive space to explore these topics.

These gatherings are moments of conviviality and warmth where no one is judged and new people are welcomed with a smile. Everyone has their own pace, and our unique experiences shape the way we view the same situation. However, we do not tolerate any form of discrimination and ask that you respect everyone’s pronouns and names.

We are also organizing creative afternoons more and more regularly. The goal of these events is to come together and engage in a creative activity – usually individually – such as sewing, crochet, writing, drawing, and more. Instead of crafting alone at home, we want to gather in a cosy and queer-friendly space. It’s important to us to offer activities that aren’t solely focused on discussing gender identity, even though this topic still often comes up naturally in conversation – and that is totally ok.

For these activities, we ask everyone to bring their own materials for the creative activity they’ve chosen. Sometimes, people bring extra supplies to share, so if you have enough and feel comfortable doing so, don’t hesitate to contribute.

We also organize an annual beach outing in the summer. Meeting at the Belgian seaside and hanging out on the beach is an opportunity to spend some time outside, enjoy the sun and have a nice experience at the beach with fellow enbies.

Every year, we take part in several Pride-related events. For us, it’s an opportunity to increase visibility for queer identities beyond cisgender gay and lesbian individuals and to showcase the incredible diversity within the queer community. Pride is also the perfect occasion for other non-binary people to discover our collective, especially those who might not have found us otherwise.

In addition to attending various activist events throughout the year, Pride is a moment of unity where many members of the collective come together to protest. We protest for our rights – those we already have and need to protect, as well as those we have yet to gain. With the rising hate directed at queer people, and trans individuals in particular, our presence and visibility at events like these are more important than ever. We exist, we resist, we are beautiful, and we’re not going anywhere.
